Orthodox Theology
The Difference in Orthodox Theology
On the surface, people often think the Orthodox Church and Catholic Church are alike. It is easy to assume that from certain similarities. But, people are often surprised to learn that in terms of theology, Roman Catholicism and Protestantism have more in common with each other than with Orthodoxy.Â
The Western churches (Catholic and Protestant) share a common framework for understanding the Christian faith based in a forensic/legal view of sin and salvation. And, theology is often done in a rational, Scholastic format – categorizing, defining and deducing.Â
The Orthodox have a different framework for understanding the Christian faith based in a disease/healing view of sin and salvation. Orthodox theology is not based in categorizing and deducing, but is an attempt to express an ineffable mystery. Theology is embedded in a life of worship.
